Solution
For scans, its pretty simple, running malwarebytes/spybot&ccleaner etc... (&im sure other good free progs) should have cleared it up. You need to contact the shop, sounds odd/dodgy to me.

I am looking for an explaination of how this is possible. I had no issues with my computer but was concerned that spyware could have been downloaded through an interaction with someone who was pretending to be from Microsoft.

When I realized person I was speaking to was not a technician from Microsoft I ended the call but wanted to make sure that they had not downloaded anything that was going to take my personal information and use it in a bad way. I picked up my computer five days later and it was completely nonfunctional. I was told that the stress test had burnt up the CPU. I don't understand how a completely functional computer could be rendered nonfunctional just because of a test.

seems quite a stretch from checking for spyware to burning out the cpu with a stress test. i would question why they were doing a stress test in the first place,if in fact thats what happened.i would certainly get a second opinion as this sounds like so much bullshit to me.can you post a copy of the repair order?
