athlon II x3 440 (unlocked) vs athlon x4 740/750/760

Hi,

Would an athlon x4 740 (or 750 or 760) be a significant improvement for gaming performance compared with an athlon II x3 440 with it's extra core unlocked (x4 B40)?

The 750k or 760k would be a good bit better, but would require a motherboard change. If you're changing motherboards, then you should should consider ALL other options. The easiest thing to do would be to upgrade on your current motherboard. What motherboard are you using?

the 750/60k requires a fm2 socket mobo (or fm2+ if you want to upgrade to kavari)
