I am looking to upgrade my graphics card to a card in the 200 to 300 dollar range over the upcoming summer. But I do not know what card to get im looking into it but the geforce gtx 770 or 760 look good but I also am looking at the AMD raedon cards like the R9 series 270 and 280X possibly a cheap 290x (unlikely). I could stretch my range a bit but not much keep in mind this will be in the future. I'm open to different suggestions. My question is should I go AMD or Nividia and what card should I buy?

If you want a good deal, go with ATI. I don't hate their cards, but I would rather Nvidia. Go for an Nvidia card if you have deeper pockets, and if you want Nvidia PhysX. I have a friend of mine that has the 280x and it keeps up with my GTX 670 FTW graphics card.

Unfortunately Radeon cards 280x and up are inflated in price. 280x will combat the 770 so if you have the budget up to $400 then that would be fine.

Best for your price range would probably be the GTX 760. Which would be my recommendation looking solely at your budget.

Check benchmarks of the [types of] games you play, to see if they favor one architecture over the other. Do you care about PhysX? That's nVidia-only. Do you intend to mine Litecoins when you're not playing games? That's AMD. Check also for game bundles to see how that affects the value of what you get.

It all depends on what games you are willing to play. If you will play BF4 and Thief, then you should get an amd card (because of mantle). If you want to record gameplays(shadow play) and want a comparatively silent card go for nvidia (personally I dont think PhysX makes any difference).
As the drivers keep updating, I'll suggest you before buying a graphic card do look at some benchmarks. It will help you decide.
