Hi all,
I have looked through numerous threads and guides in an attempt to solve this, but none of them are clear to me given my novice level of understanding, so I thought I would just ask directly.

I have recently installed an SSD in Sata 0 and have my old HDD plugged in to use as storage. If I plug it in to any of the other Sata ports, the HDD is recognised during boot up (it has windows installed on it and it offers me the choice of which OS to boot on launch) however the HDD is not recognised by Windows (it does not show up in 'My Computer'). I can boot the OS from this HDD successfully, so I know the drive is not faulty.

I have put the SSD in AHCI mode by changing the registry entries and the BIOS options. Samsung Magician confirms that the drive is running in AHCI mode.

So in essence, I'd like to be able get the HDD visible in windows so that I can use it as a storage drive. Anyone able to assist?

Thanks in advance.

An update on this- I discovered 'Disk Management' and was able to get the drive to show in Windows. It seems the issue was that there was no drive letter assigned to it. I assigned (E:) and it is now visible.

However, Windows does not permit me to Format the HDD. It simply says that it cannot complete the task. Is there way to get around this? A dummies guide to formatting outside of Windows? Thanks.
