Fan behind the Cpu socket on the motherboard.

Hi,

My cpu socket temps after overclocking my FX 8320 are a little high for my taste. (65c) And on my case, it has a 120mm fan mounting slot right behind the processor on the motherboard. (Yes, it has a full fan slot behind the cpu on my case.) Would it be of any benefit to stick a spare fan I have lying around back there to cool the motherboard off? And if it is, would it be more effective to have a fan blowing on the motherboard, or have it sucking air off it and blowing it out of the case?

Thanks!

(I hope I posted this in the correct section.)

I tried putting fans on the back before. seems it was more hindrance than anything.......... small thin fan/loud/in way of wiring....... whether it really aided in cooling, can't say................

yes to the make sure you have air blowing over your components when using water cooling solutions. lots of people overlook that.

if you have the space for it, try it. maybe your results will be good.
What cooler are you using? If it's the stock cooler, something like a Xigmatek Gaia will lower your temps considerably. It's slightly better than the more often parroted Hyper212 EVO, but costs a little less:

(Ignore that URL, it was the EVO they tested, not the Plus).

Oh Crap. I forgot to mention that I am getting the socket temp 65c when running Prime95, my fault entirely, sorry about that.
But, here is the cooler I'm using, the Cooler Master Seidon 120XL http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103180

But, I think my cooler is more than adequate for cooling the cpu. (The core temp is 45c @4.4Ghz 1.4v) So, would the extra fan help?

Yes, that cooler should be good, but note that like other liquid coolers, it does nothing for other motherboard components.
As to the backside fan, I think airflow over the VRMS will be better than blowing air on the back of your board, but it certainly isn't going to hurt anything to try it.

I have got too many fans inside of the case! 8 to be exact. and I have three of them blowing over the vrm's, but I will try putting the fan on the back and tell you guys how it works out!

Yes, it will help. What case do you have? I did this by putting a fan on the backside of a coolermaster case that had no fan space. How does the rear fan mount? Thank you.

How did yours workout?

Hi, just one question: which case You have? I have never seen a case with a fan slot behind a cpu, so I'd like to know what model is it :)
Thank You very much
