im having issues with my computer freezing, normally within 30 minutes of startup, or if i dont move my mouse when it starts up, it freezes instantly. it started happening when i installed amnesia on steam, and it kept freezing up my computer when it started up, and then i would have to force shutdown. i would also like to mention that game i installed (rollercoaster tycoon 1) would freeze when it started up before, but in safe mode i can play the game just fine.

i have:
windows 7
8gb of RAM
1 TB of storage
ATI mobility Radeon HD 5870
and it is a labtop.

Have you tired uninstalling the Steam software and then re-installing it? I would uninstall Steam first, then use system restore and put your system back to before you had these problems. Run CCLeaner, defreg your HD, run a virus scan, etc. Then when you feel you have a healthy system try to re-install Steam. Make sure you allow steam to do all of it's normal updates too.
Many laptops have hidden partitions specifically for the purpose of being able to return your laptops system files back to original. Make sure you read your laptops manual or help files to use their restore feature properly! Don't worry about your games or other files, they will not be affected, although sometimes various settings may have to be returned to...
