I am using Epson Smart Panel with Windows 7 X64. I have an Epson Perfection 1240U scanner. All is working fine except when I try to 'Scan to email'. I believe I have to register the Windows Live Hotmail application via the tools. But I cant locate the path or location of it in the 'Programs'
Please help

Solution
Windows Live Hotmail is not actually an installed application, that's why you can't find it. It's a web-based email application which you access by signing in to your email account on it's website.

Consequently, you can't use it to "Scan to email" from your Epson scanner.
To use that feature you need to have an email client installed on the hard drive, such as Microsoft Outlook or the free Mozilla Thunderbird.

Thank you Phillip,
Yes I understand what you are saying and why you say that.
But I felt that when I was on Windows XP and later Vista I thought it did work.
I have had Hotmail as my main account for many years.
As I access my Hotmail account via Windows live, does that make any difference?

Both XP & Vista have an email client built-in (Outlook Express & Windows Mail respectively) so you probably set up your Hotmail account in those built-in email clients in the past. Under those circumstances, the "Scan to email" feature works because the email software is/was installed on the computer.

Windows 7 does not have any email software built-in, you have to install one (for example, Microsoft Office Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird).

If you currently can only access your email account by signing in on a web page, "Scan to email" will not work.

Thank you Philip. I don't want to stop using my Hotmail account, so it seems I have to choose between Hotmail or another email account. any suggestions?
Could I use my Hotmail account via, say outlook?

Microsoft Outlook settings for Windows Live Hotmail are here: http://email.about.com/od/outlooktips/qt/Access_Live_Hotmail_in_Outlook.htm

Some Hotmail accounts have been moved to a new online service called Outlook.com which can also be set up locally in Microsoft Outlook. Details for that are here if it applies to you:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/outlook-help/use-an-outlook-com-account-in-outlook-HA010354935.aspx

Incidentally, didn't your ISP give you a POP3 email account with your monthly internet subscription?
I guess they didn't otherwise you would not be using Hotmail - right?

Thank you Phillip,
Your assumption is correct.
I will follow up the links you have provided, which I appreciate.
I am exploring the Epson Copy Utility 3.5, which I downloaded yesterday as a possible Smart Panel replacement?

I got the Epson Cop Utility 3.5 to work via Outlook, but the scanned image is saved to your pictures. You then start your Hotmail/email program and insert it to the email.
I then tried Epson Smart Panel Scan to email, selected Outlook and an email came up the scanned image attached. So I'm back to the Smart Panel.
Thanks
