Problem with connecting from PC to TV...

Hey all, I'm new to this forum and I have a problem that really is bugging me.
I recently bought a usb to hdmi cable and connected it from my pc to my tv and I can see fine except the video quality is very terrible and laggy. Also, I don't think my computer recognizes that there's a HDMI cable because when I go to the NVIDIA control panel, it says there's an analog display instead of the HDMI. What could be the problem?

My specifications are as follows:
Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (driver version 307.83)
Windows Vista 32-bit
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) Processor 2650e 1.60 GHz
RAM: 2 GB

I don't know a lot about computers but I know enough to know that this really isn't the best computer. So, could the problem be the PC itself? Thanks in advance.

If your tv is plugged into your usb then your nvidia card is not rendering the image.

When plugged in to usb it is rendered in software I believe. I use a dvi to hdmi adapter.

VGA?

You may need a powered vga to hdmi converter.
