So I'm a first-time PC builder and I'm looking to get this 8320 - M5A97 combo. My question is, will they be compatible? Apparently, there is an issue with the BIOS update (I don't really know what BIOS is entirely, so any help is greatly appreciated)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Your CPU is already supported!

If you wanted to do a BIOS upgrade ( unnecessary ) here is the newest version:

I am not sure why people keep thinking that AMD CPU's are not going to be compatible with ANY MB at this time. This Asus MB has Been ready for this CPU since November of 2012!

This MB likely has a much newer BIOS version than you will need. You can use this list and ask the vendor what BIOS is on the MB if your are concerned as they are printed somewhere on the box.

The BIOS is the control information that is used to tell the computer where to look for booting ( HD, USB, or optical drive - The Boot Order ), CPU, memory and HT parameters and various tools to OC or upgrade the current BIOS. You should definately take some time to learn about the BIOS, before you build your first computer. You can start by downloading the manual for you MB and Read about all the BIOS features so won't feel too intimidated when realize you have to make some changes in you BIOS!

This Asus MB is a great MB, you should have no problems, but realize that if you want to learn about overclocking and eventually try to get the most out of your system, the higher models have more robust power supplies for the CPU, not to mention the ability to add another GPU for best crossfire capabilities.

Thanks so much for clearing that up! I am definitely going to check out BIOS. Good thing this problem came up, otherwise I'd never even look into it unless if there was a problem with my motherboard, and that could complicate things a lot. Thanks again!
