Can I safely uninstall WD's SmartWare without damaging my external hard drive?

I recently purchased a 1 TB external hard drive from Western Digital. I was wondering about the backup software that comes with it and after searching around the web it seems that it is crapware. Besides, I can backup my computer without their software which is what I was planning on doing anyway. I was just wondering if I will be able to uninstall this software without making my hard drive unusable. If not is there a way that I can completely disable it?

No but I was wondering if I can uninstall it and still be able to use the hard drive. I have heard that it can't be uninstalled and in this case how can I disable it.
