I think my comp is running to hot. Just idling it's usually in the mid 40's. When I am browsing the internet, it goes up to around 50. Videos cause it to run between 45-55 usually with games going up to 70-ish. running Prime95 right now and I am at 90. What do I do? BTW, not a comp engineer or really all that familiar with this stuff...

I do have an aftermarket cooler that I installed about a year ago. I also replaced the thermal paste a few weeks ago. This computer was built by a friend of mine probably about 2-3 yrs ago and it's been running great. This concerns me though, because eveything I've found says that the max temp for this cpu should 55-62.

Do you mean 90*C? That is actually pretty bad.
I don't think it should even touch 60*C, for the love of god consider getting a new Heatsink.

What is your current cooler?

It's possible that if this issue just started recently that your thermal paste needs replaced or your fan could be failing on your processors heat sink or both. Also, you may want to make sure that your case isn't full of dust and all dirty as that can inhibit your computers cooling efficiency. An aftermarket cooler would definitely help though I would try to see if you can do anything without purchasing anything but that's up to you. I get that you may not be fluent or very knowledgeable but if you check around there are many placed to find information on how to change your heat sink and fan for your processor. Both on tomshardware and youtube you can find many videos and tutorials of how to approach this. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Like I said earlier, I did replace the heatsink and fan about a year ago and the thermal paste a few weeks ago. I also do clean out my comp on a regular basis. I do know enough to do those things.

That heatsink is really just a step sideways from the stock cooler. Putting a different fan on the same 80mm radiator wont change much. My 965 hit 62 while gaming stock, now I hit 56 with the 212 EVO at 4.11 GHz.
Highly recommend the EVO as that cooler is basically stock.

It has worked well for a year. I replaced the old one when this first started happening. Plus, when you are on a budget...and I did consult the friend who built the comp before getting my current cooler. I don't think I even have the stock cooler anymore.

Would pretty much anything by EVO be good?
