Have I exceeded my motherboard's RAM limit?

Almost a year ago I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 560 Desktop with an additional 8gb of ram, which brought the total to 16gigs..I am not an expert..I just love doing things like this to see what will happen... so, with that said; several months later I upgraded the stock 2.7ghz core 2 duo..with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 Processor 3.0GHz..I already had an nvida 650gtx gfx card and an xfx pro 650watt installed.. this was all done between mid and late 2013.. I've had no problems with my computer throughout that time.. but a few days ago my power supply went out.. I'm certain that if it does what it says on the box my motherboard should be fine.. but I'm really curious now.. have I exceeded the maximum RAM limits of my motherboard? Right now I have four 4gb sticks of corsair RAM sitting in there..I wish I could get you all the specs on my pc but like I said.. its dead with out a power supply right now.

If it ran and used all the ram it wasnt that that killed the psu, it was being years in the saddle
(you replaced it at some point) and then running the quadcore and big card. You wont know if your aftermarket psu is up to its promise until the new one goes in, but it wasnt the upgrades that killed it, unless you only put in 400watts worth.

In 2012 I took out the stock 400 watt psu and replaced it with the 650 watt one that just died on me.. I'm almost certain that you're right and it wasn't the upgrades that killed it.. I live in an old house that is in desperate need of rewiring.. Do you think its possible that I was just unlucky and got hit with a power surge or something?

You're right ^_^ 16GB of ram is overkill.. but I did run diagnostics and made sure my system was making use of it.. I appreciate your input.. Thank you

Thanks people.. I'm going to get a power supply a few hundred watts up from what I had before for good measure and if it doesn't work.. I'll begin saving to build my first computer. I appreciate the time you took to respond to my problem.

You need a GOOD one, not a huge one. Get an xfx 550 watt pro , they are $69 in the us and canada and will last 6 or 7 years. I think you just bought rubbish. I had an eazycool 650 watt, it only lasted 12 months.
Get an xfx !
