My computer has been off for hours. I come home and turn on the computer. But it only comes on for a few seconds and than it just turns off. It powers up for only a few seconds. I don't know what could be causing this. When it's on it works fine. I have a 500 W power supply. I've never had a problem in the past. Sometimes it can take me a few hours of continually trying to turn it on before it actually works. Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

Ok pl remove your system's RAM and plug it again. Just for checking try with one module at a time. Most of the times this symptom is related with the RAM. If it is ok then check your PSU for proper working. Last but not the least you may have to check the CPU itself.
The most crucial info is missing and that is of RAM. Have you recently changed hardware or any configuration. Also pl try to reset your BIOS settings. You can do this by using jumper settings on mobo. Pl check your mobo block diagram to help identify the right jumper to clear CMOS/reset BIOS

I'll do that. Last night after a few attempts it finally worked. But today if I have the same problem and it doesn't turn on I'll follow your instructions. It works sometimes and other times it doesn't. It's very annoying.
