I know I won't settle this argument, just want to chime in on the side of reason...

- typical system will draw 200watts (give or take a bit)
- that GPU draws 250watts
- Total: 450watts

NOTE: if the OP OC's he'll need a bit more power....

So, if you want to run your supply at 100% load, go for it..........
- fan will spin at high speed (noisy)
- supply will run hot

Bottom Line: A supply will simply NOT last as long when at or near 100% load as the SAME supply run at 50--70% load.

the question was settled a while back actually. and the op has a nice 620W psu, plenty of power.

now it's just me arguing with hefox. i just don't see myself running anything over med graphics (maybe a 7850) on a psu under 500W. even on a good quality psu. call me conservative or too careful, but i just don't want to do it. i may run it a short while if i have no other choice before i upgrade the psu but that's about it.

You talk about theoretical usage and I talk about real usage. Clearly that 450W psu would work fine but of course it's not recommended to push it too much. Also that Seasonic actually gets better result in a hotter environment.

Depends what video card you want to upgrade too. I wouldn't push it too much. Your psu is built by Seventeam. Not bad but not great either.

I know. We've established that his current PSU will handle fine the XFX R9 280x. I was talking about future upgrades.
