Asrock RAM problems

Hi all,

I've looked around here to search for similar problems, but the ones found have not helped me that much.

Here's my problem. Built myself a new system a while back. Asrock b75 pro3m mobo. I've originally placed 2x4Gb Geil ram modules in it. It gave me 4 beeps directly (had them in A1 and B1). I've switched them to A2 and B2 to get it started.

This worked fine for a little while, but it felt like my system still wasn't really clicking for some reason. Felt sluggish. So I thought I buy another 2x4Gb this time I picked Corsair, cause it was on sale.

I got it to start, but blue screens followed suit as soon as I did anything that was needed some RAM. So I played around with memtest a little and came to the conclusion it was because of the Geil RAM sticks. Went to customer service and they checked it out. Nothing wrong with them. They kept it to run longer tests.

In the meantime I got another 2x4Gb Corsair RAM from a buddy, just to rule out any mobo problems. For the life of me it wouldn't work in any way possible. Just kept giving my 4 beeps and restarting.

I've pulled out one of the RAMs and finally got it working and stable with 12Gb total.

So I was thinking maybe the one slot is broken. I got a Corsair 1x8Gb stick to put in there. So I could get my 16Gb of total RAM, but return my 2 Geil RAM sticks. So I would have 3 sticks of RAM in there just like it worked with 3 sticks of Corsair earlier, but the damn thing just won't work now. It just refuses the 3 stick system. It will give me 2 sticks or none.

What am I missing here? Why wouldn't it work with 3 and/or 4 sticks? It did work with 3 sticks of 4, so why not 2 sticks of 4 and an 8?

Losing my mind over this and I just can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated

Solution
OK try the pair in slots 1-2 and the 8GB in slot three, manually set the freq to 1600, set the timings to 10-10-10-29, DRAM voltage to 1.6 and give them a try

Mixing DRAM can be problematic, even if using the same exact sets, best is a single set of the full amount you want, here would be a 2x8GB set, prob 1600/9. For the moment though what actual sticks do you have (the model numbers of the sets/sticks) and we can see if we can get them all to play in a 16GB config with a few minor timing and voltage adjustments, also knowing your CPU and PSU would help ;)

Right now I'm working with the 2x4Gb from Corsair: CML8GX3M2A1600C9. As I've said before I had another 2, but the 4 together didn't click for some reason. Just gave me 4 beeps until I removed one and operated with 3.
I've exchanged the second pair with a single stick from Corsair: CML8GX3M1A1600C10. But that just seems to not work with the 2 already installed. It does work on its own though so I know it's not a faulty RAM issue.
And I've originally started with a pair of Geil DragonRam 1333 sticks, but those are still getting checked out for faults. Haven't yet heard from them. They didn't sit well with the 2 Corsairs neither.

Kind of a messed up situation if you ask me and very annoying.
My rig is as followed i5-3350P, Asrock b75 pro3-m, gtx 660, corsair tx650w, the RAMs discussed and 3 hard drives. Everything runs stock, no overclocking or anything. Except for the harddrives and psu, everything's not even a month old.

Doesn't really appear to tell much of anything, except to get you to other software that's for sale or send you to Crucial - it's actually one of the more worthless 'tools' I've seen, appears to be more of a shill for other sites and products

Ok so I tried to put the 4Gb's of RAM in slot 1 and 2 and the 8Gb one in the 3rd slot, but all I got was beeps and continues restarting.

Had to work my way around a little bit. I put the 8Gb one in first (3rd slot) and set the timings to 10-10-10-27. After that I put in a 4Gb one in the first slot. And then I put another one in the 4th slot, because it wouldn't work in the second slot.

Tried it for a week and no trouble so far. Still running smooth and stable so I guess you can file thise problem under solved and I thank you very much :)
