Looks like a 720m is close to my 540m in performance. Newer titles will probably give you problems.

The GT 720m is not that big of an improvement over the Intel HD 4600 graphics core who's performance is between the GT 710m and GT 720m. It is certainly better than the Intel HD 4600, but if you are going to buy a laptop with a discrete graphics card, then you might as well go for some better than the GT 720m. At the minimum I would look at the GT 730m (not sure what the AMD equivalent is).
The actual graphics card you should consider depends on the resolution you want to play at, and your expectations. The higher they are the more expensive the mobile graphics card will need to be to meet your expectations. Laptop graphics cards are much less powerful than desktop graphics card. For example, the nVidia GT 750m is less powerful than the desktop Radeon HD 7750 graphics card which many people consider to be a budget oriented graphics card.
