Upgrading my graphics card but don't know which to get. Some feed back from you guys would be great.

(I will be playing in 1080p)

Links to both cards:

GTX 770:http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-gigabyte-gtx-770-oc-...

R9 280X: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-gigabyte-radeon-r9-2...

I'm not too bothered about the price difference I just want the card with the best all round performance.

Thanks.

The 770 is slightly faster. It's also slightly cheaper if i remember right.

I'd chose the 280x due to the extra VRAM that will become more useful in the years to come or if you play at higher than 1080p.

No if you consider the xfx or his r9 280x to gtx 770 then gtx 770 wins. But if you consider the gigabyte 3x windforce or msi twin frozr r9 280x to gtx 770, then it outperforms in 3 games out of 5 which makes it the better gpu.
And the asus matrix r9 280x, sapphire toxic r9 280x are even much better.
So get the Gigabyte r9 280x as it is slightly better than gtx 770.

If you are in a country where the prices have risen on the R9 series then get a 770. If they are the same as the MSRP get the 280X.

Than you're comparing non-reference to a reference. The 770 Classified and Superclock with ACX would match and outperform the non reference AMD cards.

You can get the 770 lightning from the today only page for £250, which will be faster than the windforce 770.

Should I go with the lightning or the DirectCU II?

If you value a quiet system, go for the Direct CU II, otherwise I wouldn't think there would be much of a difference between the two really, maybe a few per cent at most, which you wouldn't notice in games, especially at 1080p (same will probably apply to the differences between a 770 and R9 280x).
I've got the Asus R9 280x Direct CU II Top and it handles anything I throw at my brill Dell U2711 monitor (1440P).
Make sure you think about the whole package, not just pure performance, as this will serve you better I feel.
