I noticed it was a mini version designed for mini boards - would it work on this normal mobo

you would want the itx card only when building a itx sized pc, and even than it's probably a bad idea because it's not a low profile (height) card so you'd need a riser in which case you can almost always use a normal sided card instead.

honestly i don't understand its point... maybe some matx boards where the length is an issue? or cubes?

let's you "tilt" the video card so that you can have very slim cases.
(card becomes parallel with the motherboard instead of perpendicular to it so it doesn't add its height to width of the case)

this makes no sense, the gigabyte motherboard in the signature is a full size atx motherboard. except for the very high end readon r9 280 and above and gtx 770 or above any graphics card would fit as far as i can see.

only the very top end of the graphics market will be longer than that. you should pick whatever you find at a decent discount in your budget. this is a nice review on graphics card choices:

yep, should work. i assume you have enough room bellow the pci ex port where the gt640 currently sits (the new card will cover the port below it and another half of the next one)

edit: and length is 8.6" fits event the 9" requirement you mentioned above

you can sli 2 of them, the 2 pci ex 1x slots between the big pci ex-s are the ones that are unusable. (card is 2.5 slots wide) 1 of them is the one where it's plugged

oh that's far more comforting then, i will buy the card in the next 10 days or so, i was slightly confused as to how the card would not be obstructed by the blue metal thing to the left of the port -pcie16 -however i have taken the liberty of looking at other builds using the same mobo and i am assuming because those similarly large cards fit that the cards bend outwards from the motherboard to prevent them being obstructed by things sticking out of the mother board?
