Hello WORLD, im a few clicks away from customizing my first build but im kinda stuck. Im trying to figure out if the stock heatsink that came with my AMD sempron LE-1150 is strong enough to keep my new AMD phenom X4 9950 Black edition nice and chilly. I havent ordered the AMD 9950 yet because im trying to get everything else in order. Would i need a new HEATsink???

My MOBO is a ALIVENF6p-VSTA if thats any help and I already now that its a old peice of junk but its my first upgrade. :)

Solution
if the new cpu is a a box version it will have its own cooler in the box. if not you need an aftermarket one. the sempron one won't cool it sufficiently and it will overheat.

would a cm 212 evo fit your case/motherboard?
I use and recommend the Xigmatek Gaia over the more often parroted but slightly inferior Hyper212 EVO:

http://www.techreaction.net/2011/11/27/review-cooler-master-hyper-212-plus/4/

Unlike the Hyper212 EVO (ignore the URL; it IS the EVO they tested), the Gaia never throttled, although it wasn't always the coolest depending on the fan used. Both got awards, but the Gaia is usually cheaper as well, making it the better choice. NZXT has a new 120mm tower cooler as well, that is cheaper than either of these. Performance will be comparable. It isn't that the EVO is a bad cooler, but it's a bang/buck Loser.

both of those are out of my budget. I only have $30 to spend.

measure the space available around the current cooler, and from the motherboard to the edge of the case and compare to the specs of the cooler. onus' point is also valid, the xigmatek gaia is also a great cooler.

either one you go for keep in mind that you will be able to use it on other cases/cpu-s too.

alternatively you can go to a pc shop and ask them for a recommendation/assembly if you are not sure.
