Best way to install Windows 7 on UEFI

Hello,

So I bought a custom build beast with "GIGABYTE X79-UP4 ATX w/ Ultra Durable 5, GblAN, 4 GEn3 PCIe x16, 2 PCIe x1, 1 PCI" as a mobo, and it came preinstalled with an UEFI bios. No matter what I do, USB drives with Win7 on them won't be seen in the boot menu, which is scarry. I tried many things, like formatting into a FAT32 file system with Rufus, and placing a GPT layout... still nothing.

I gave up on USBs and burned the Win7 image on a DVD, and tried booting from that. It worked, Windows started loading necessary files... then it crashed saying it didn't find a specific file...

I used this ISO repeatedly before, there is nothing wrong with it, but this new desktop is killing me... nothing works.

Any ideas? How do I remove the pre installed Win8 and replace with Win7

Removing the pre-installed Windows 8 is easy, although I would first extract the Windows 8 activation key using the free Belarc Advisor from HERE in case you decide you want to use it later. Then you can wipe the drive like this with diskpart commands: Boot from the Win 7 disk, but don't install, just open the command prompt window and type:

diskpart
list disk
select disk n (where n is the disk identified in list disk that you want to clean)
clean
exit

Now you will have an unallocated disk ready to install Windows 7. HERE is a good tutorial on a UEFI Windows 7 install procedure.

The main problem I am having is that I cannot boot from a Win7 USB or DVD. The USB doesn't show up as an option.

What you suggested is fine, but I cannot boot from a Win7 device yet, so that's what I need help with.

This is a stupid question, but does it automatically erase all data after boot? I mean there has to be at least one more question if I am sure I want to remove it, right?:)

Not stupid at all -- better to ask than to just find out. Yes, you have to actually select to delete the volumes, booting alone will not do anything.
