hi guys, im building a new gaming pc and don't know whether to get windows 8.1 (for the increased frame rates in bf4) or install windows 7 and get an ssd.
my questions are;
is the frame difference that significant between win 8 and 7?
should i buy an ssd and use win 7?

i also want this os lasting as long as possible and look to the future (i dont want to change my mobo for a while), so will win 7 last me, or will it become outdated for gaming?

Solution
The performance difference (in frames per second) is pretty huge between 7 and 8.1. I'd say that you should go with 8.1 and get the ssd later.
Keep in mind that SSD's will barely affect your ingame fps, only loading times and install times for games will be faster.

Windows 7 will be fine, and they will not be getting rid of it anytime soon, seeing how bad Win8.1 was received. I would go with your SSD instead. That will speed things up way more than the different OS would.

Just one thing, if you need a start button go ahead and install this: http://www.classicshell.net/
Old start button with multiple skins for a more classic feel, and of course a lot more customizable!

yeh, kinda =D, although on Linus tech tips, they benchmarked games on the same system, same settings and found a ten to fifteen fps increase, which I only just found
