AM3+ Build needs a CPU but I'm stumped

I need some personal feed back and it may be a little redundant but I just got my Asus M5A99fx PRO R2.0 motherboard sitting in the box beside me and I don't know what to choose. The FX-9590 is 300$ and the FX-9370 is 227$ which is only 20$ more than the 8350. Very reasonable. I want the 9590 but can the 9370 be overclocked much? Has anyone pushed either of them? I heard they can't because of the massive TDP. I'm also concerned about power consumption. I have a 80+ gold 750W PSU and it is cutting close at 666W on the calculator with a R9 280X GPU & FX-9590. Is that enough head room? Here are the components.

Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 Motherboard
Corsair RM 750 PSU
G Skill DDR3-2133 CL10-12-12-31 RAM
Samgung EVO 120 SSD
Seagate 3T HDD
Corsair H100i Cooling
Windows 7 Premium 64bit

ok so basically its all luck here, grab an 8320 if you dont want to go over 4.6. the 8350 isnt bad either and the max you will be able to achieve is really 5ghz if you are lucky and got a good chip. if you dont want to overclock you can grab a 9370 for the same price as the 8350 and get 4.7 right out of the box but remember the 9370 and 9590 are both clocked to almost their limits of these chips. the 9590 the highest ive seen people get is only about 100-200mhz more max as for me i was only able to get about the same out of my 9370 but may be able to get a little more if i tweak it even further.

it all depends, the price between the 8320/50 and 9370 are all so close you might as well just spend the extra 40 and get a 9370.

one thing...
it will support that cpu but i wouldnt do it, i have a 8320 @ 4.8 stable which is the best of the best for 8320s and i upgraded to a 9370 sinc eit was on sale for 200. well can I tell you that it will only overclock to about the same speed of 4.8-4.9 @ 1.512v I was pretty disappointed, but it is a little more stable. was also able to get my ht link to 2600 vs 2200

grab an 8320- most will be able to get to 4.6 @ ~1.4v

even at those clocks you will need a high end air cooling or something like the h100 to keep it decently cool.

full load my 8320 would go over 70c with one 220mm rad.

also ditch that 2133 and grab some cheaper 1866 unless its a good price, preferably something cas 9 or lower.

I also recommend a fan mounted to vrm heatsink, they get really hot on the 8 cores trust me and yours is only 6+2 which is a hair lower than mine.

no board says supports 220w cpu, i have one of the boards that supports these cpus and its only a 140w board just like the asus rampage and the one other board it is supported on as well as the other boards that are getting bios updates to support it. the 125w board will not work.

I believe there is a Firmware update for the 9 series and I asked Asus personally and it will support it. I seen on the spec the 140W which made me wonder. All the parts I listed are the ones I have......waiting. Just need CPU and GPU which I made my mind up on R9 280X. But 06yfz450ridr you said you picked the 9370 up and overclocked to the same GHz as the 8320. Did you say the 9370 was more stable? I also read the 9 series can handle up to 90 degrees. How hot was the 8350 overclocked and what did anyone use to cool it. I have the Corsiar H100i FYI

The FX-9370 is almost the same price as the I'm assuming you meant the 8350. But the 9370 is stock clocked at what the 8350 can do (almost) max. I look at the benches and see the 9590 is a hair under the intel 4770k despite the power consumption. The R9 280X is very suitable for my needs for a single 1080p monitor and later when they get cheaper and need a boost I will go crossfire. It just seems that people as I am are afraid of the 9 series. They are Vishera archetecture like the 8350 but beefed up TDP , overclocked and the Cream of the crop Silicon. I suppose the thing I really want to know is if ANYONE has overclocked the 9 series past 5 Ghz and how much?
Thanks for the answers by they way

The average overclock of the FX 8320 and 8350 are in the 4.6-4.7ghz range. Crossfire still has issues of its own. You are better off getting the FX 8320, clocking it to 4.4-4.5 and getting a 290. A 290 will outlast a 280x, which is nothing more than a rebadged HD 7970.

one thing is you will need to be running ~ 1.5v and your vrms need a fan on them trust me, mine were at 70+ full load( the asus vrms throttle past 74c I believe) and my rig runs 80% cpu usage while playing bf4 bec of my xfire. with one card it was only about 45-50 %

as far as crossfire havent had an issue with mine but you rather just grab a 8320 and 290 from the start since its more powerful plus your 750w will struggle when overclocking everything and trying to run xfire if you do

ok so yeah that's kinda why I was at a loss. The 9370 is almost the same price but if I went 50$ more I could get the 9590. I didn't even think about the heat on VMS. hmmm. The lowest performance wise would have to be 8350. I'm just a little stubborn that way. But the R9 290 is like 550$ and the 280x looks like it will handle well for the 350$ it costs. I'm gathering the 9 series cpu's are just not for overclockers or just extreme overclockers with refrigeration. Be pretty cool if there were closed loop refrigeration units. Are you pleased with the 9370? other than you can't squeeze very much more out of it?

well currently the 8350s sit at 199 everywhere and the lowest price for the 9370 is 229 here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8324285&SRCCODE=WEBGOOPA&cm_mmc_o=mH4CjC7BBTkwCjCV1-CjCE&gclid=CLa_rJ-99rsCFUsV7Aod4EcAcA

I would just grab the 9370 the performance difference isnt a whole lot to the 9590 and even then I would say your h100 may struggle a little on higher cpu usage but it will keep it cool.( i would ad new fans in push/pull heard you can drop the temps 5c or more

I like my cpu I just wish I lucked out and got a good one that could reach 5 ghz around 1.5v I am going to see what the lowest voltage is to achieve that.

they make water chillers like the ones for big fish tanks that would work haha but they are expensive

I appreciate the input coming from someone that actually owns one. Thanks. I don't think very many people have them. It is kinda hard to find reviews since they are at a reasonable price. I know I wouldn't touch it when they were like 1000 bucks. Anyway you've been most helpful
