I am looking at building my own gaming PC, and I was wondering if there is a difference between having a single RAM card and having multiple, smaller cards.

More about : 8gb ram card 4gb cards

You would be better off with 2 4gb sticks so you can take advantage of dual channel.

+1 and most of todays CPUs have MCs (memory Controllers) that are native to dual channel with the exception of the socket 2011 CPUs that are native to true quad channel and older X58 where Tri channel was the norm

And if the motherboard had 4 RAM sockets, along the same lines, would it be better to have 4 2GB sticks? Or Would that be less efficient?

2 sticks, is less stress on the MC yet still invokes the use of dual channel

youll be better of with 2x 4GB incase you want to upgrade to 16GB if that day ever comes.
