I have to make this quick before I am forced to restart.

I have been having issues with my machine for two weeks now. I decided to get rid of the old HDD and Install W7 on an old HDD which I got from an old external drive. The the external still had files in it but I installed w7 on it. The issues I was having before have stopped but now I'm getting all kinds of errors. For instance, steam was refusing to download games because the disk was busy.

Anyways, after 2-3 hours of installing windows and being done installing drivers I started getting this error "Windows must now restart because plug and play service terminated unexpectedly".

I have looked online and it seems to be due to a corrupt OS which makes sense...

I'm trying to boot from the W7 dvd to reformat the HDD and run the w7 install again but whenevr I boot from a cd my mouse and keyboard go dead. It happened earlier as well when I was trying to boot from my antivirus cd.

Any ideas of how to get around this?

I dont know, perhaps it is because of your Corruption?
Run a linux distro on a live cd and tell me if your keyboard and mouse work.
Try Slitaz, it is only 38MB

I managed to get the installation going while windows was active. However, then the machine restarted and my peripherals went offline. I ended up switching ports and apparently, usb 3.0 ports don't work unless windows is up and running. It doesn't make much sense but whatever, I got it working.

It seems that my OS was really corrupt because I haven't had any of those annoying crashes since I reinstalled windows about 36 hours ago. The machine does feel a bit slow but I guess that it is better than an unstable machine.

Thanks for the reply.

Honestly, maybe you should just use GParted to format the pc and then reinstall a fresh copy of windows.

If I have been helpful, even though it's bad news, consider picking solution!
