I'm attempting to build a small budget gaming computer built from mostly second hand parts I've gotten from too many places to count. so far i have everything i need, save for ddr3 ram, and it looks like its going to have to be the one thing i purchase, however I don't want to purchase anything without knowing everything else was working. so i put the computer together and turned it on. the heatsink fan comes on, as well as the motherboard led and the power supply leds, i was about to turn it off when i realized that i wasn't getting a beep code. i should get one if there was no ram inside the machine, but its still not giving me one. does this mean something's broken? and if so, what could it be? I have a feeling it could be the processor, but i could be wrong.

my case does have a speaker but i couldn't find a header for it on the motherboard, although the motherboard itself has a speaker.

I've seen computers turned on with no ram in my boces class and they've given beep codes. and ive asked a lot of my friends and noone seems to have any ddr3 i could borrow, plenty of ddr2 though.

As far as I can tell that m/b is from an HP computer. Proprietary m/bs like taht don't always behave the same way as consumer m/bs. I think that you are only going to know for sure if it is working by putting in memory and connecting to a display.
