So, people. I recently updated my gpu to ASUS GTX 760 OC2 and i've immediately started having problems. My PSU had a circuit shortage 2 days ago so i replaced it with a new one(XFX PRO 550W). That's that, Today i was playing a game called Archage and im about 10 minutes into the game when my computer starts making a really loud fan noise and then my computer shuts down. I unscrew the cover and place my hand on the CPU cooler and hell it was hot as.
Well It all started since i got a new GPU, so i really need help figuring out what is actually causing all of this.

My Specs:

CPU: AMD Bulldozer FX-8120 3.1ghz(not sure but the website i bought it from said it's overclocked to 4.1ghz but my ghz is always recognized as 3.1)

CPU Cooler: Artic Freezer 13CO
GPU : ASUS Geforce GTX 760 Directll OC2
RAM : Ballistix 4GBx2 1600mhz
PSU : XFX PRO 550W Core Edition

Sound like the cooler on the CPU got bumped and is unseated.
Check to make sure it is seated properly. Probably best to simply take it off and replace the Thermal Interface Material (TIM). Check out this Tom's link for procedure.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/333968-28-thermal-paste-removal-installation-guide
When you fire it back up, take a look in the BIOS/UEFI and see what the temperature is on the CPU.
I like to use CoreTemp ( http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/) or hwinfo64 (www.hwinfo.com) for monitoring while the PC is running, and MSI Afterburner or EVGA PrecisionX for monitoring my video card.

that sounds about right, currently monitoring GPU and CPU temp while in-game(Far Cry 3), here are the results :
GPU temp : 60'C
CPU temp : 50'C

maybe, just maybe the cooler is unsteady, it is possible that i bumped it while i was installing my new GPU...

so, i was just testing something out. i had my gpu and cpu temp monitoring software up.. whilst i was in game for about 10-15min cpu temp reached up to 59'C max and gpu temp went up to 60'C max however i kept my cover open and i kept touching the cpu cooler which was getting hotter and hotter when i was in-game. It just felt like if I carry on playing for a minute or two longer it would just shut down like it did last time. So surely neither the gpu or cpu are over-heating. So should i replace the TIM or does that sound like the CPU Cooler needs to be replaced...?

Obvious: the cooler will heat up while in use. Your temps sound o.k., but monitoring programs use software to interpret the sensors and they are not always very accurate. That cooler should be working fine, is the fan spinning up as the temperature goes up?
If your case and fans are clean then:
I would start with removing the cooler, clean everything as the link shows and remount and reseat the cooler and see what happens. You didn't post your specifications, but, warming cpu cooler aside, that fan noise might have been your power supply fan; and if the psu has gone south (self destructed or self destructing) that would explain the shut down under load.
What exact PSU do you have in there?

i just checked the thermal paste and it seems to be partly dry so i guess ill be needing to replace that... but it's strange how this is what is causing all of this since it all started happening when i changed my GPU...

Yup, PC's do that. Their are stories around the place where after cleaning their machine it just failed to start, the dust was all that was keeping it going.
The phrase "dont fix what aint broke" is probably half based around the fact that something will probably break if you tried

OK, the heatsink itself is hot. So heat is getting to the heatsink, so thermal paste probably isn't the issue. Seems to me like your fan has failed somehow, just maybe not in such an obvious way that it stops spinning.

also my cooler has to be caught up with two holders in order to be steady and i've noticed that it was only strapped up to one of them, so i kinda balanced it out and strapped it with both holders and now it is somewhat steady i think.. but I haven't tried playing anything...

yeah also there was dust in the heatsink and the fan so i cleaned that too...
