I've just built myself a potentially sweet gaming rig. Potentially, because I fail to install Windows 8 on it. I've tried a few different things already, different disks, USB booting with Plop Boot Manager, nothing seems to work.

I just end up on
Quote:
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

I do indeed have my optical drive as primary boot device, and SATA Mode is on AHCI. My purpose is to put Win8 on an SSD and have all my other stuff on an SSHD. The SSHD is unplugged for now, I was planning on plugging that in after everything installed.

I'm going slightly insane, since I've built this thing yesterday, went to sleep, went to work, came home and 6 hours later I'm still nowhere.

I have noticed though that when I put in a Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM, it did want to boot -that-.

._.

Knowing the motherboard you have could potentially be helpful here.

Try using Rufus for making a bootable USB drive, then copy the Windows files on it.
Connect the USB stick to an USB 2.0 port.

Thanks, I'm typing this from my first Win8 computer ever :D

Rufus seemingly failed somewhere in the proces, popping some error, and I had given up hope for the evening.
When I decided to try to use the USB anyways this morning (since the files on it looked pretty complete to me) it worked from the first try!
