Ok, I'm to the point I'm about to turn the stupid updater off, as it seems to be useless.
I have it set to notify me of updates, and it does, but when I click install, it says "downloading x number of updates (0kb total 0%complete) it will stay like this for over 15 minutes.

Also at one point, it tried to install them when I shut the machine down and it stayed on the update screen for over half an hour at 0% as well.

I have Comodo Firewall installed, I disabled that, still no luck, also have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, but highly doubt one of their own programs would block updates.
I'm to the point of just turning it off and saying screw it, as there is no reason for this.

Also ran SFC for another issue, and it came back fine.

What version of Windows are you running?

I recently installed Windows XP on a laptop I was cleaning up for my father, and I basically had to leave it on and connected to the Internet all night for it to start downloading and installing updates.

It's Vista. Never had a problem with my XP machine updating, it would show progress immediately.

I shut down the system, and it eventually installed the updates as it was shutting down. it's just way slower than what I've ever experienced.
