I have recently build my own computer and it has been working fine apart from the hard drive. when i take the hard drive out it brings up the motherboard bios perfectly, but when the hard drive is in it shows MBR error. please help.

Solution
OK. It doesn't yet have an MBR and that is the problem.

Boot the machine, go into the BIOS, and set it to boot from your CD/DVD drive - whatever you have. Then open the CD/DVD drive, insert the install disk for your operating system (Windows, Linux, etc), close the drive, and reboot. It should go through the BIOS POST (Power On Self-Test) and then boot from the CD/DVD and read and execute the install program from the CD/DVD you inserted. Follow the instructions and when asked if you want to format the hard drive answer Yes. Then follow through with the rest of the install procedure. It will ask you questions and you answer them according to how you want it set up. When it is complete it will either automatically reboot the system or...
MBR stands for Master Boot Record and it is the first thing the BIOS reads from the hard drive to load the operating system. It sounds like that sector on your hard drive is either 1) not present because the hard drive hasn't been formatted or 2) it has been formatted and the OS loaded onto it and that sector has been corrupted in some way.

If #1 is the case then start the install of the OS and it will format the drive for you. It will take a while.

If #2 is the case then search the internet for a program to fix the MBR for the OS you loaded.

Remove the CD/DVD from the drive and reboot. It should boot from the hard drive. It will then most likely ask you a few more questions about the installation and when that is complete you are ready to go.
