The problem

Basically when I boot my new-built computer, everything turns on and the pre-BIOS screen loads up with the logo of the motherbuild build etc. My keyboard is connected (I can press caps lock etc and the lights on the keyboard turn on) but whatever I press to get into the BIOS, it doesn't do anything. Afterwards it just goes to a black screen and I can't do anything.

My new built computer components

- 900 watt PSU
- Gigabyte radeon r9 290
- External hard drive to install linux on
- CD/DVD reader (with linux boot CD)
- ASrock B85 Pro 4
- Intel Pentium G3320

Other information

I had a hard drive attached to the motherboard first with windows installed, it worked back then. When I dettached the hard drive and tried to boot with Linux CD it didn't work anymore. I've tried resetting the CMOS settings both by re-attaching the battery and using the CMOS panel on the motherboard, both didn't do anything.

I read through those steps and double checked them. My computer does boot though, it just doesn't respond to anything in the bios loading screen (press f11 for boot menu etc) while my keyboard is 100% working. After the first loading screen, my screen just goes black and the computer doesn't do anything.

I had it working before with a hard drive with Windows installed, now I want to boot from DVD with linux iso on it to install that on my external hard drive (connected through a USB).
