As the title suggests I'm learning how to build a desktop. I've been wanting to do this for roughly 8 years. My budget is roughly $500-700. Could anyone put together some ideas for me? I've been looking around and really feel overwhelmed.

Thanks for your help.

Edit: I forgot to add. This is going to be a gaming computer. I want to run Skyrim with mods on high settings.

Just get win 8.1

Games run more stable on it. The UI is ugly as hell no joke but you can download the windows 7 shell on it, so you get your main windows 7 buttons back.

Glad to know you can download that. How much is the difference in stability for games?

Its really nothing major, but games do run better and a tad faster on 8.1

8.1 supports latest directx and handles multi threading better

windows 7 is cheaper (79.99 + FS on ebay) and you dont have to deal with the annoyances of 8 or 8.1 which still have bugs.

the so-called improvement in gaming really doesnt amount to much. your choice but using 8.1 in person (my brothers g75 laptop) and 7 (my own desktop and laptop) i'd personally never use 8. my own choice for sure, just chiming in.
