When a drive loses data it's usually a sign that failure imminent. You can try data recovery software but that's really only intended to help after you've accidentally deleted data. Still, worth a try: http://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/best-free-recovery-software-1141256
As all hard drives fail eventually, it's very unwise not to have your data backed up to a second drive. I have my data backed up on three hard drives.
