I've used the NetSpeed Monitor for years on my Windows 7 machine that shows live upload and download speeds in the taskbar. I have a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and have found that NetSpeed Monitor does not work with it (won't install). Is there a comparable program that someone can recommend that does the same function? Thanks

Was in the same situation. Just right click on the installation file and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility". This should work as it worked for me on Lenovo with Windows 8.1

Exact same situation but HP laptop; doesn't work. It may be due to HP's tendency to fiddle with Windows, have seen this before- HP=Hate Product

Thought I'd try it on HP Win 8.1 and stumbled across the solution-

If you managed to get the display on the tool bar and it's showing 0 up- 0 down, right click on those characters to get a short menu.
Choose Configuration; on mine I got this:

Realtek PCI FE Family Controller
Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.1b/g/n
Microsoft Wi-Fi Virtual Adaptor
Microsoft Wi-Fi Virtual Adaptor #2

I finally chose the Qualcomm (seemed logical) setting and now have an active display of up/down activity.

I found this topic when looking for Windows 10 Netspeedmonitor on Google, so I'll just add that Fireblaid's tip works on Windows 10 as well.

Downloaded the latest Netspeedmonitor version (been 2.5.4.0 for a while now), ran Troubleshoot compatibility on it and it installed and works as on Windows 7 - network speed in taskbar :)
