Hi! I have a Toshiba Satellite L850 laptop, with 2.3 Ghz processor, 8 GB RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium. It has a 750 GB hard disk partitioned into 3 drives.
Recently, since a week or so, I have been having crippling problems with my system. There are multiple problems and I hope that you will bear with me. I will list these:

1. Weirdest: My C drive is 52 GB and has free space of 12 GB. But randomly and automatically, while working, the free space on it goes down as low as MBs or KBs!! This is often coupled with hangs/crashes. This results in me having to manually power off the system and then restart it. Even now, the free space on C:/ remains in MBs/KBs. However, when I have shut down and then started the system the free space often goes upto as high as 19/20 GB! Whats up with this??!

2. Often the system hangs or becomes painfully slow even without C:/ free space error.

3. There might be a heat/fan problem as playing high end games like the latest Assasins Creed would sometimes result in auto and sudden system power off, with the laptop being able to be started only after at least a couple of minutes. The fan also sometimes makes a clicking noise.

4. Searching the system using hte search box always results in a crash.

I have run a full system anti-virus scan(although, by a dubious Avast :p), Error-checked C:/ and defragmented it as well.

Please suggest.
