I got a usb wireless adapter from linksys to hook up my new home built pc to the internet, the adapter is the AE3000. I put the installation cd in and when it tells me to plug in the adapter it says it is trying to detect the device but it never detects it no matter how many times i try to reinstall.

Im positive that my usb ports work cuz ive tried using keyboard n mouse in them and theyre fine. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? Idk if im missing drivers or something but i dont think so. Is there like something you have to do with a new built pc to enable internet on it? Any help is appreciated

When you plug in the device do you get any indication that the hardware is detected in Windows? Such as in the system tray?

The reason I ask is that if Windows detects it, but the software suite does not, its likely an issue with the software suite. I would try downloading just the drivers from Linksys's website and running those.

If Windows does not detect it at all, I would try plugging the device into another computer to validate that the adapter works.

Yea i have tried installing it on a different computer and it worked fine thats why its so annoying cuz i know that it works it just like wont be detected on my pc. But when the device it plugged in it still appears in my list of network adapters and in properties it says this device is working properly. But the icon says its disabled and when i try to hit enable it says enabled for a second and then just goes back to disabled so idk.

Well the good news is that based on what you've described to me, it is being detected by your PC. The linksys software suite is just not able to detect it, likely because it has been loaded/installed with an incorrect driver. Open up your device manager, find it listed under network adapters, right click it and select "Uninstall". Then, remove the device from your computer. Restart the computer.

Relaunch the Linksys software suite, and wait to connect the device until it prompts you to do so specifically. Let me know if it now detects the device.
