What is the stock voltage of an FX 6300?

If I read different threads I see people reporting different voltages, which I would assume is because not all chips are exactly the same, even within the same model. I have an FX 6300 on an Asus M5A97 R2.0 mobo. With default settings loaded in the Bios it's detected as 1.2 volts at it's stock 3500Mhz. That seems kind of low to me. However I OC'd it stable to 4.0 @ 1.225 volts. (x20 multiplier) Yet I see people not getting that until around 1.35, reporting a stock voltage not much, if any lower than around 1.35. I'm aware of the 'not all chips are created equal', but I'm wondering if it's just being detected by the Bios incorrectly, or if I indeed have a chip that has a core voltage of 1.2.

There are at least four different low power P state voltages listed on CPU-World, along with two boosted P state voltages. 1.425V @ 4.1 GHz, 1.4125V @ 3.8 GHz, 1.225V @ 3 GHz, 1.125V @ 2.5 GHz, 1.025V @ 2 GHz, and 0.9V @ 1.4 GHz.

You may be reading the voltage when the processor is in one of it's various lower power states.

I believe the FX-6300 is supposed to run 1.35V when at 3.5 GHz, it's default non-boost, non-power saving clock rate.

Well, I went back into Bios and reset all to defaults, just to check, and then saved and rebooted. This was what it showed

For some reason whenever I was looking at it before, it was at 1.2. I guess because without a load it remains pretty static. But just now it was bumping up and down. Anyways I was seeing that as a fixed setting, rather than an active current reading.

However when I boot into Windows and check it in Asus AI Suite, it shows this. (Not sure how well you can read this as it's my first time uploading images to the forum and not sure if I've got it right)

If you can't see it, the left panel underlined is the fixed cpu voltage and Asus optimized defaults sets it to 1.1875 . I loaded a Sony Vegas render which maxed out the cpu - you might not see it's at 100% - and CPUz shows it only drawing 1.14v - that 1.14v is of course not fixed, it is actively reading, but it never goes higher, only lower. Also remember this is not an OC setting, just my default to demonstrate what it was showing up as.

So what I make of this is that Asus has chosen that as the optimized voltage, even though it could use more. Yes? So I had used 1.2 volts as my starting voltage setting for OC'ing starting with multi @ x17.5, and going up from there. So does that mean I have just undervolted my CPU? (reaching 4.0 @ 1.225v) I ran it 2.5 hrs in Prime with no errors - will go more, but wanted to get onto the right track with this first.

EDIT: Alright the pics didn't upload properly, haven't got that figured out yet.

Alright, I think I got this image thing figured out ...

So it looks like it is hitting the correct voltage but there is still something a bit confusing about it to me.

I set it in Bios to default values - so it correctly shows at 3500 Mhz, with the other default values Asus selects, Then I ran Prime95 and took a screenshot. Here ...

Hopefully this time it shows.

On the left are the settings - not what it is currently reading or drawing, but what it's set at. You can see all the other entries are correct ... FSB @ 200, CPU/NB Voltage @ 1.15, DRAM @ 1.5, NB @ 1.1, VDDA @ 2.5, etc - yet the CPU voltage is set at 1.1875. That's what confused me. Yet while Prime is running I see in HWMonitor that it did hit 1.368 at one point, but the voltage fluctuates. In CPUz, it is at 1.14 where it sits mostly - rarely does it go up to just 1.2 - usually between .8 to 1.128. So I guess I can assume it gets there, but as this is new to me - both mobo and CPU, I'm still getting to know it. So does this all look normal to you?

Look normal? Sure!

I would say, your voltages being reported could be incorrect, or your motherboard is not maintaining the settings where they are supposed to be.

As for not showing the highest voltage under loads such as Prime95, that also sounds normal. The highest voltage should only be needed when using the highest boost clock, which will not be possible with all 6 cores utilized fully.
