Has my GPU died?

I was trying different fan configurations I needed to take out my graphics card (Sapphire 7750 Ultimate)to get at the m/b.

Put it all back together and there's no output to monitor.

Onboard graphics took me back into windows where no graphics card detected.

Unable to test it in another machine just yet but my old (noisy) HD4850 work just fine in the slot.

specs...

ASUS M4N68T-M
AMD Athlon II X3 445 Processor
8gb crucial Ram
Corsair 500W PSU

Will be gutted if Its dead. Despite being a passive card, it barely ever went over 50degrees under load. Never any problems until now. The 4850 is saying 60 when idle.

It seems like a weird coincidence that your GPU would happen to die as soon as you do some replacing. The first thing I'd recommend you do is a reseating, make sure everything is snapped into place properly and plugged in where it needs to be and as securely as they need to be.

Thanks for quick reply. I gave that a go before digging out the other card. Theres No fan on the sapphire to see if power is going through it, but there does seem to be pins for a fan on the card itself. Would knowing if those work help diagnosis

When I give it another go later - Would there be anything else to try, other than ensuring everythings right in place?

Just connect all the pins to the 7750. You need at least a 400 watt psu which I assume you have since it worked before. I dont really know what could cause this. Good luck :<

Just gave it another go. Same situation. Reseated it a few times just to be sure.

There's no power input to the 7750 ultimate, so no pins. PCIe interface looks clean. Not a driver issue.

I'm at a loss.

Pretty sure its not M/B support. It is a new case, but card was working fine for a week before this.

thinking it may be to do with the slot. Will try to make the board slightly more proud of the case under the GPU next time I give it a go...

any other ideas anyone?

Almost convince now that yes the GPU has died. Will continue to try every now and then for a week or so, and try to test in another machine.

I can't imagine its drivers, as wouldn't card POST even without drivers? Its not detected as anything within device manager, and the catalyst immediatly sorted out the HD48xx with a driver.

Half suspect giving the case a tap behing the m/b where it hits the GPU is about all I can try otherwise. reseating the heatsink on the card also maybe.
