SATA 3 disks not detected at reboot so keeps defaulting to CD and so Windows 7 boot fails. ASRock 960GMU3S3 FX has 2 SATA 3 ports which work fine AFTER detection but it takes a lot of messing about to get it to work each start up, whether sleep or hibernate or shutdown. Of course hibernation wakeup also fails because it can't see the system disk.

Have tried all the usual including replacement of cables and battery and updating of BIOS - 1.40 - and the disks, voltages and memory check out fine, as does the SFC scan of Windows. It's simply a boot time disk detection problem. No indication what the problem is from event viewer (41 and 6008). I presume the motherboard is faulty but it's new and seems to work fine once it gets going.

Solved: it was a motherboard fault :( A few days after posting my plea for help, the mobo failed completely. My replacement board (from ASUS) doesn't have SATA 3 but it does work fine with Windows and the rest of my hardware.
