Hi there. I met a problem about LAN play over wifi with my brother's pc.

I have a wifi connection which works perfect in my laptop, and my brother uses desktop PC with ethernet cable. We both using same modem/router. I tried several games to play LAN from my laptop to pc and vice versa, none of it worked.

I cannot see the LAN room my brother created it and vice versa. I checked my router properties and I think there's nothing wrong there. Windows Firewall allowed them too! So I started to wonder is the problem caused by wifi? Others said wifi can play LAN but why mine can't?

Any good suggestion? :)

what games?
Older games used an outdated IPX protocol that is no longer supported by Vista or higher. which would mean, you can create the lobby, but no one can see it as there is no network protocol connectivity.

Windows Firewall may be the culprit blocking your computers from communicating, unless a computer connects using RDC windows will by default block the incoming connection, you must open said ports of the game via Windows Firewall or disable the firewall all together in order to connect your computers internally on the LAN.

I set the Local IP address for the desktop pc is 192.168.15.100 and my laptop is 192.168.15.101
So like minecraft I can directly connect to LAN thru entering local IP with port. But some games don't give this option. :(

Minecraft is Java based, which is a program already allowed through the Windows Firewall, different subnets would affect this, however you are both within the same subnet so this is not the issue. Try both of you disabling your firewalls and try connecting again.

Turned off firewall and all kind of unused components, never works. So it is not a firewall problem? I tested about 4 or 5 times in each different games still won't work.

Any other suggestion? Or maybe a windows config problem? Or need any configurations in my router?

Thank you for pointing that the old games uses IPX protocol! Yes I usually love to play starcraft and cry of fear which are made by old generation of game engine. I think I should try hamachi to play LAN or something else. Anyway, thanks! ;)
