UEFI BIOS only shows a black screen

I recently built myself a computer for gaming and uni work, clean install of win 8.1 64bit. The system boots into windows perfectly fine and it runs all the games I have installed but the issue is when i restart it and attempt to enter the bios all I get is a black screen and nothing else.

Note I didn't receive a speaker for the motherboard with it or the case.

Can someone help me? I would like to overclock in the future and I'm assuming the bios is the best way to do it?

try using that to connect! you might get lucky and the card will let you use the DVI-to-VGA adapter to send signal to the TV during the BIOS POST phase. i'm assuming that one of the card's DVI output connectors has the 4 little pins around the flat bar that carry the VGA signal.

otherwise, it would suck to have to buy a cheap basic no-frills graphics card just to swap it in for BIOS access.

So it's not a hugely terrible thing if I don't have access to the bios then?

I should have an old X1300 pro lying around somewhere to try to access it
