A internet plan right now that I have right now with CentryLink states that I will get 7/ Mbps internet speeds but I noticed when im downloading steam games im getting like 400-700 kbps. Could this be something with the router or...?

There are a lot of things that slow down internet speed. one can also be that if you live in a residential area internet is shared and internet speed slowed because so many people are using it, especially at peak time.

Your download speed will depend on the site you are downloading from in most cases. The heavier their traffic, the slower their download speeds.

7 mega-bits-per-second is almost the same as 700 kilo-bytes-per-second

8 bits = 1 byte, but error checking makes it closer to 10:1 in practice.
