I have an HP computer running Windows Vista. The computer has been running slowly for quite some time, but recently it has stopped opening programs. When I click on a program, the scrolling circle will run and run, but programs won't open. For Internet Explorer, the window will open, but nothing will appear in the window. If I try to X out of IE, it wall say it's not responding but will not allow me to close it. I end up having to do a hard shut down because it will just freeze. I ran malwarebytes in Safe Mode and it returned one result (Trojan.Agent) but when I removed it and restarted, it did not fix the problem. I tried a system restore but my computer said it had no restore points. All I need to do at this point is to be able to download the Mac migration assistant so I can transfer files over to my new laptop, but I am not able to download this in Safe Mode and can't access the internet in regular mode. Any ideas?

Are you able to remove the drive and scan it from another system and remove your files that way?

I'm not sure how to do that. I suppose I can try to attach our external hard drive in safe mode.

Well you would have to remove the hard drive from the computer and hook it up to another computer as a 2nd hard drive and scan it that way.
