AMD Vs. Intel processors for low budget high performance computer

What brand of processor is best for a low budget high performance build? Also what specific processor should be used?

AMD's FX series microprocessors are very well positioned in the budget market. Intel's are better, but come at a modest price premium.

On the lower end of that budget ($400) AMD is pretty much required... even then that's still kind of an anemic budget. IMO, once you start spending around $500, you get so much for only only a little bit more. On the higher end ($700), you might be able to fit in a Intel processor but this might cut back your GPU budget.

This sounds like a setup that would best work with an amd 8320. Pretty affordable and quite powerful.

I agree with spentshells, but I would recommend the 8350 instead of the 8320 because for 40$ you get that extra mmph that I find helps a lot during hardcore gaming sessions.
