I've just recently built this computer: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/2zAbu

Everything's going good, but I'd like to overclock my 6300 to get a bit more out of the system. I know I'll need an aftermarket cooler, so Im grabbing a Hyper 212 Evo this weekend. I have some other questions though:

1: Do I need my latest Mobo updates/bios all that stuff? I didn't actually update any bios or mobo drivers when I set up my system because I didn't have a DVD drive at first. Is that something I should do now? And if I do that, it's not going to wreck anything else that I've already installed, will it?

2: How do I overclock? Is it just up the speed, up the voltage, stress test, and keep going until you can't go higher?

3: How much better will overclocking make my PC? I only use this thing for every day stuff (Web browsing), a bit of software compiling, and gaming (BF4). If I OC to ~4.5 GHz, will I see a difference in performance? How would an OC 6300 compare to a 8320 for what I'm doing?

Thanks guys!

I would read some overclocking guides before attempting your overclock. Overclocking takes a lot of patience and an understanding of what all the values mean in your BIOS. It's not something to just jump into. There are a lot of guides at the top of this forum. A Google search for how to overclock your specific CPU and motherboard would also help. Take your time reading up and don't attempt to overclock until you feel comfortable with it. You can ruin your new components if you try to overclock without knowing fully what you're doing.

for question 1 yes it easy to get the newest bios though if you dont already have it
2. you should be about to get around 4.1 to 4.3 by just adjusting to the multiplier
3. really depends on what your going to, with what it looks like your going to do i wouldn't worry about going to 4.5, and thought the fx 8320 is an 8 core most games really only use 2 to 4 core so in my option its kinda of a waste. a fx6300 oc to 4.5 will be around the same performance as the Intell i5 4670k
