I've read 3 hours worth of these on Tom's Hardware alone this morning, but the story basically goes like this:

I woke up today to a computer that was shut off. I seldom shut my computer down, so I'm thinking it was either a power issue or something requesting a restart and it never completed.

I booted up the computer, started under normal mode, and everything ran fine - except the network symbol in the bottom right corner of the screen. It has that wonderful little yellow triangle with a '!' in the center of it. It's labeled as "Unidentified Network."
After troubleshooting the modem and doing the ole power plug out/power plug in trick to the ubee modem/router model DDW3611, it gives me the message "local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration".
- Time Warned Cable automated services states there are no outages in this area at this time.
- My iPhone, which I am currently using to type this, is working fine when connected to the network (wirelessly).
- My PS3 connects to the PSN and online games via a wired network just fine.
- My device manager says my Network Adapter (Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-V) is working properly and the ASUS Maximus vi hero website shows I have the latest driver (checking via iPhone)
- My only recent activity was playing Arkham Origins, authorizing my cd key for windows 7 pro full, and therems always the possibility that Avast! Updated itself at some point.

Ipconfig /all shows:

Try to see if you can access your router setup page by typing 192.168.0.1. I believe the username will be "user" and password "user". Click on gateway, then advanced gateway setup. You are checking the LAN setup not the WAN. Make sure DHCP is enabled and the range should be something like 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.100. Also anything pertaining to IPV 6 I would disable. Reading you post again, I see that you router is handing IPV 6 address and not IPV4.

Right click on "Network" then click properties, click change adapter settings, right click on your Local Area connection. Uncheck "Internet Protocol Version 6 TCP/IPv6"hit Okay. Then go to IPv4 hit properties, make sure Obtain IP address automatically is selected and obtain DNS automatically. Restart your machine and try to reconnect.

I did try that earlier today, and it looks like I can't even access it. After several long wait periods and repetitive calls to Time Warner Cable and ASUS, it sounds like I might just have to RMA it (not really sure what that means other than returning it).

Now, I just need ASUS to call me back...

Okay, try this: follow my steps regarding how to access you LAN the IPv4 properties. Remove the check box that says obtain ip automatically and select us static. For an ip enter 192.168.0.25 for a subnet enter 255.255.255.0, for a gateway enter 192.168.0.1. Your DNS would be 192.168.0.1 As stated before uncheck IPv6. The see if you can access you router and check the settings of the router I mentioned above.

One other thing I overlooked is the tunnel adapter. Go to device manager click view, show hidden device, expand your network adapter and remove/uninstall the tunnel adapter. Should say microsoft 6 to 4 adapter. Then try obtain IP address automatically on the IP4. And reboot.

Hi All,
I had this very same problem and it vexed me no end. I even tried a spare NIC, but Win 8.1 wouldn't recognise it. On removing it to check seating I flipped the PSU power off to shut everything down. I turned all back on forgetting that I plugged the mobo NIC back in and it everything worked! I wondered if closing all power allowed the NIC to reset itself fully.

Woth a try, worked for me!

I had this problem a while ago and couldn't figure it out. I even ordered another Network card. By chance I turned off the whole PC including the power at the wall. Lo and behold, on boot-up, it worked! I can only assume that somehow the onboard network card somehow got 'stuck'. Last week, my daughter blew the power in the house and when I got home to my PC I had the same old Yellow triangle in the corner. I turned everything off (including the wall socket) rebooted the cable modem, waited for it to be ok, turned on the PC and everything seems fine again.

Give it a go.

Unplug everything from the wall. Wait one hour. Plug in and reboot. This worked for me after I spent hours trying other solutions described on the internet without success.

You may check new applications which just installed on your computer. Uninstall starting from the latest one, after that try to troubleshoot problems. I have done this and successful.

Worked for me also, but I only waited 15 minutes or so. I also had spent hours trying other solutions described on the internet without success, and bought a NIC card to replace the internal NIC. But that also exhibited the problem.

For everyone who is stuck with this! Listen to the guys above me. Unplugging the main powersource IS the problem. After trying cmd commands, typing the ip adresses from another computer till this one and lots more, the thing that worked for me was pulling the plug, so to speak

Just in case anyone else is having this issue... The fix for me was to open device manager and uninstall any IPV6 adapters you have. they were gumming up my ipv4 from working properly for whatever reason. I tried everything on this forum and others to no avail, then figured I would try removing IPV6 adapters I didn't need anyway and it worked. anything named ".... 6 to 4...." or ISATAP or teredo or something like that. There's a million of them, just google any network adapters you don't recognize and if it is an IPV6 adapter just uninstall it. Then reboot and BOOM!

I spent all this morning on phone to my internet provider, who checked everything at their end and couldn't find a problem; and my PC manufacturer. Nothing they tried worked - the yellow warning triangle of doom just would not be banished - and the only remaining option they advised was an operating system reinstall (£70 quote).
Reluctant to go down that drastic route, I searched the web for other solutions and found this thread. None of the suggestions worked for me BUT then it occurred to me to try connecting my old wireless network adapter instead of my current wired connection (Ethernet switch via Home plug to router) and - hey presto - I now have a connection!!

I had the same problem after reconfiguring my routers. My PCs were both Win 7 and connected via CAT 5. My PCs connected via wireless did not have the problem nor did my Vista PC that was hardwired. I do not know if there is a causal relationship but the timing seemed to lead me to think so.

I tried unplugging, rebooting the PCs, rebooting the routers, disabling the adaptor.... So, this is what worked for me. I disabled the adaptor and then got diverted onto something else. It was disabled for about 30 minutes. When I enabled the LAN adaptor after the 30 minutes then it worked. I tried the same thing on the 2nd PC and waited about 10 minutes. It also started working in that I could then connect to my LAN. I was also able to change Public to Private on the profile.

I'm glad to see I am not the only one struggling with this issue. I just upgraded to win 10 and every time I boot the pc wired to my modem and router there is no connection. I can get it to work by rebooting my modem (don't need to worry about the router) before I boot my pc. It works but how do I avoid having to go through this?
