I want to get into PC gaming.I have friends who will help me build it. but since this is my first gaming PC I am on a budget (around £500 to be specific). I do not want to buy windows 7 so i can spend as much money as i can on my parts.I have an old dell that the gaming machine will replace that has windows 7 on it. would I Be able to take the hard drive out of my old dell and insert it into my new PC and keep windows 7?

a reply would be greatly appreciated :).

2 reasons why this probably will not work.

1. Licensing. From that Dell, the Windows license is almost certainly OEM. And as such, is tied to that specific motherboard.

2. Completely different hardware. Given major hardware differences, it probably won't even boot up.

The operating system is just as much a part of the PC as is the GPU, RAM, CPU, whatever. Suck it up and buy a new copy for your new PC.
You could probably sell the old Dell, and make up most or all of the price of a new OS.
