I am planning to buy a new laptop, asap.
I am confused between the HP Envy series and the Dell Inspiron 7000 series.
My basic requirements are 4th gen i5; an FHD screen and a Gddr5 graphics card. But not a single laptop is available with these 3 specs in my country; India.
I am getting the:
1) inspiron 15 7000 i7 4500u, 8gb, 1tb, FHD touch, and 2gb GT 750m ddr5 in 73,000 INR.
2) HP envy Touchsmart 15 i5 4200m, 8gb, 1 tb, 2gb GT 740m ddr3
a) FHD touch 75,000 INR. B) non FHD non touch 63,000 INR
This will be my first laptop and whatever I'll buy I have to run it for 4-5 years. ( my last PC was a p4, which I used for 7+ years ).
I need the machine for little programming ( I am an engineering student ), gaming ( not too much, but I'll definitely play bf4 and arkham city :p ) and entertainment purposes like movies from local storage etc.
Which one shall I go for and why ? Is the config/laptop worth the price ?
Any other suggestions are welcome :)

Although I'm no laptop expert, I 100% agree with kawininjazx. We considered the envy, but there's no optical drive which is a huge drawback for our purposes. More importantly, we have had two prior HP laptops and neither lasted two years - the first just 1.2 years. Second, both were very slow and lagged in all tasks. Finally, the power supply and battery problems were constant. On the first we had to repeated buy new power cords and battery life was about 1 hour. On our second HP the power cord had to be taped into a specific position to get it to charge. It became more and more problematic until it finally just wouldn't charge in any position.

We are using a Dell Inspirion and an Acer now. The Dell, although 2 years older, is significantly better than the Acer. The Dell has a 2.2ghz processor & 6mb ram, the Acer has 2.4ghz processor and 4mb ram. The Acer doesn't hold a candle to the Dell. Also, the Acer has some internet problems (drops from wifi often).

Based on our experiences, I strongly urge you to stay far, far away from HP.

The Dell is a much better option in my opinion. It has a more impressive battery life and a more powerful CPU. HP laptops will never last you 4 years unless you're buying one of their $2000 workstations.
