I installed windows 8 in AHCI over 6 months ago, Yesterday I had to reset my BIOS, I enabled AHCI again now windows will only boot in IDE mode.

Solution
makes no real difference mate. ahci just enabled hotplugging on the sata ports. get a copy of windows 7 manager and check to see if ahci is enabled in windows. if its not try enabling it. then boot into bios and change it over to ahci mode the pc should boot. if it doesnt what error or error behavior are you getting.
also make sure other settings for sata are enabled in bios as some can be switched back to legacy on a bios reset.
but like i say it wont make any difference to system performance such as faster boot times, so if you dont hot plug you dont need it enabled.
