Alienware X51 Cooling

I'm not completely sure if this is the right category, if not I apologize, and yes I know Alienware is the devil please do not throw holy water at me.

So my X51 is having some overheating issues and I was hoping to get some suggestions, I thought it would be best to ask here first as I'm still currently in the beginning of learning about cooling so I'm still unsure of a lot of things. I'm currently low on space so getting a bigger case isn't really an option right now.


I'm hoping to get something quiet and external under or around $75, any suggestions or answers will be appreciated.

First, have you cleaned the case and all air vents and heatsinks of dust? I clean mine with canned, compressed air for cleaning electronics.

Second, what are you trying to get that is "quiet and external"?

What is overheating, the cpu? motherboard? GPU?

You really can't move 'em to a new case as they use like three (3) boards for the "motherboard." And the external power supply brick means you can not use a standard ATX form factor powersupply in the new case so again your stuck their.

A GOOD cleaning is your best bet. Check the net I ran across a review of this unit once, showed REALLY DETAILED photos of how to take it all apart, no easy task without a guide...

The thing the X51 is apparently known to overheat a lot because of bad airflow, and has always got really hot rather quickly, but I check that out too.

I edited my post a lot before posting it my bad, I meant an external fan or some kind of cooler etc.

And sorry but I'm not fully sure, its just I read a while back that if you put your hand on the back it shouldn't be so hot that you have to take your hand away, and it almost is.

As I said to the other reply, "the X51 is apparently known to overheat a lot because of bad airflow, and has always got really hot rather quickly", it is possible to change out parts, according to a review it is very easy to change parts, but I was hoping there would be an easier solution, aka an external fan or cooler of some kind.

And thanks for telling about the case.
