Hi,

So after returning from a weekend trip to see some friends, I came back to my shared flat to find my Logitech z-2300 sub-woofer broken (by what I can only assume was a drunk cranking Miley Cyrus too loud). Again, I'm unsure how it was broken, but I guess it was turned up too loud.

The two monitors are working perfectly fine, however the sub is in the most part gone. With careful listening I can hear a faint bit off bass, and a more crackled quiet bass on the deeper songs. what is also noticeable is the metal extension on the rear gets really hot, as well as the immediate surrounding areas, I'm unsure whether this was the case before though.

Would the remedy for this just be to replace the cone?

Cheers

Hi
As you mention heat the chances are that it is a damaged voice coil which is lowering the resistance and overheating the power amplifier.
Try putting a thumb on each side of the loudspeaker unit and press gently inwards if you fell any roughness then the speaker is damaged.
If it is damaged then you could possibly replace the speaker unit itself but I don't know where you would get a like for like replacement, though you could probably get a speaker of the same diameter that would work.
